TWENTY MINING COMPANIES PRESENT THEIR OFFERINGS TO AGENTS FROM FOUR COUNTRIES AT THE MINING AND MINERALS HALL WITH EXTENDA

A total of 20 Andalusian companies from the mining sector will hold a hundred business meetings with nine agents from four countries to present their products and services as part of a reverse mission organized by the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, through Extenda-Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion, in the III Mining and Minerals Hall (MMH), held in Seville between October 15 and 17.

As part of this mission, Andalusian companies will be able to promote their offer to buyers from Poland, Morocco, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, markets with ample business opportunities for the sector, in the selection of which Extenda’s Business Promotion Offices and Antennas in these countries have collaborated. They also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition area or attend the activities organized: technical seminars, visits to mines or business meetings parallel to the mission.

On the other hand, the international delegation invited by Extenda is expected to visit the stands of companies with outstanding mining projects in Andalusia, such as Tharsis Mining, Matsa, Atlantic Cooper, Riotinto, Minera Los Frailes or Cobre Las Cruces, as well as the exhibitor of the Association of Mining, Mining-Metallurgical, Auxiliary and Service Research Companies (Aminer).

The CEO of Extenda, Arturo Bernal, highlighted that the MMH has become one of the main meetings of the sector held in Europe, with the capacity to bring together the main mining companies from all over the world. This makes it an “exceptional showcase for the Andalusian mining sector, which has the opportunity to demonstrate in these days that it is the perfect partner for international mining projects and attract the attention of multinationals,” he said.

Bernal referred to the strong position held by Andalusian mining in Spain as a whole, with Andalusia as the first exporting community in the sector and sales worth 2,772 million euros in the first seven months of 2019. “The international dimension is fundamental for the mining business,” he pointed out, recalling that, precisely in this third edition, the organization of the event has set as one of its major objectives to increase the degree of internationalization of the sector.

The Mining and Minerals Hall is a biennial meeting of national and international character that had in its previous edition more than 11,000 visitors and 130 exhibitors, 10% more than in 2015. In its third edition, the event has changed its name to include the entire mining sector, including non-metallic mining and metallurgy.

The international event will bring together some of the main players in the international mining industry and will address topics such as the current threats and opportunities of metallic mining and industrial mining; innovation and research in the sector; competitiveness, sustainability and security of energy supply; the opportunities of the circular economy; mining policies and investments; and the premises for the new Mining Strategy of Andalusia.

Andalusian Delegation

The Andalusian companies participating in the reverse mission are from Seville (AT Clave, ALS, Procisa, AGQ Mining, Azcatec, IDP Ingenia, Cubicoff, Rodamientos Bulnes, Ditecsa and Abengoa Agua); Huelva (Cauchos San Diego, IPH, Alfalite, Angel Helmet and Oinse); Cordoba (Codimar, Genaq and Keyter); Malaga (Aplitop); and Cadiz (Articlima). The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union through the P.O. FEDER of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a Community contribution of 80%.

Andalusia, leader in mining exports

Andalusia is the leading community in mining exports, with €2,772 million in sales between January and July 2019, representing 17% of total national sales. In this period, the sector already has 1,471 exporting companies, of which 40% are regular exporters (four years in a row exporting), amounting to 580 and growing by 4.1% compared to the same period in 2018.

Huelva accounts for almost half of Andalusian mining exports, with 1,249 million in January-July (45%) of the total; followed by Cadiz, with 538 million (19.4%); Almeria, with 401 million (14.5%); Cordoba, with 387 million (14%); Seville, with 136 million (4.9%); Malaga, with 33 million (1.2%); Jaen, with 14.2 million and Granada, with 13.4 million.

The sector’s exports are highly diversified geographically, reaching four continents in its first five destinations alone. China is its leading market, with 537 million, 19.4% of the total; followed by Bulgaria, with 354 million, 12.8%; Italy, with 282 million, 10.2% and year-on-year growth of 30%; the United States, with 167 million (6%) and an increase of 25.7%; and Morocco, with another 167 million and a rise of 11.6%. In addition, an Asian market that reinforces this diversification, the United Arab Emirates, where sales doubled (+159%) to 32 million.

Extenda’s support to the mining sector

This action is included in the framework of actions planned exclusively by Extenda for the mining sector in 2019, a priority area for foreign trade in the region. These actions include attendance at some of the most important international trade fairs in the sector, such as Perumin Arequipa or Exponor Antofagasta; or the organization of direct missions to markets of interest to contact importers, such as the one organized for the PDAC trade fair in Toronto.
