Seville, 3 October 2023.- The fifth International Mining Exhibition now has a date. The biennial event, which has been held in Seville since 2015, will take place between 15 and 17 October 2024 with the theme ‘Mining & Minerals Hall: Meeting point towards a sustainable future’.
Organised by the Asociación de Empresas Investigadoras, Extractoras, Transformadoras Minero-Metalúrgicas, Auxiliares y de Servicios (AMINER) and the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla (FIBES), the Mining & Minerals Hall (MMH) is one of the major mining sector meetings held in Europe, which makes it a prime opportunity to highlight the latest news and trends in the sector with a special focus on technology and sustainability.
Since the end of the previous MMH in October 2022, the organisation has been working to repeat the success of that event. The 2022 closing ceremony also saw Enrique Delgado, CEO of Atalaya Mining, formally named as MMH commissioner. He takes over from Javier Targhetta, commissioner of the last two MMH meetings.
The International Mining Show is an exceptional opportunity to showcase new products, projects and the latest technological advances in the sector, but it is also a forum in which experts and industry professionals take part in debate to address the great challenges that the future holds in the field of mineral raw materials. Carlos Rich, Director of Strategy and of the International Division at Atlantic Copper, has been appointed chairman of the Scientific Committee and is currently designing, in collaboration with a group of experts, the scientific programme for MMH 2024.
The challenge of ensuring European strategic sovereignty in the field of mineral raw materials, with the goal of guaranteeing a secure supply and reducing dependence on foreign sources, will be one of the main themes of the next meeting, along with sustainability and innovation in the mining sector. The industry continues to make great strides in the responsible use of natural resources with cutting-edge projects to improve efficiency, incorporate circular economy principles and use renewable energy sources, among other advances.
The 2024 meeting will also add to its exhibition area by expanding from the two pavilions used in past years to three at MMH 2024. The new pavilion will include space dedicated to promoting the positive social impact of the extractive industry, the industry’s benefits in the environments where mining companies operate and the essential role mineral production plays in humanity’s progress. A programme of parallel activities aimed at schoolchildren, university students and the general public will help to share information about the societal value of mining and its importance to many aspects of our daily lives.
MMH 2022, international impact
With 10,000 visitors to the exhibition area and 1,001 conference participants from 39 nationalities from all over the world, MMH 2022 was also attended by 115 speakers from Spain and abroad.
With an economic impact of 5.4 million euros in the city of Seville, 3,000 business meetings were held during the three exhibition days and Spanish and international media were in attendance.
