With 180 exhibiting companies and a first class scientific program, the Mining & Minerals Hall will be held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones, Fibes.
Seville, October 14, 2022 – Seville will become the European mining capital next week at the Mining & Minerals Hall (MMH Seville), which will be held from the 18th to the 20th at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones, Fibes. With the presence of 180 exhibiting companies and a first-class scientific program, this year the MMH celebrates its fourth edition as a reference event for the sector in a global context in which mineral raw materials have become essential to address the transformation towards a green and sustainable economy.
Renewable energies, electric vehicles and technologies linked to the energy and digital transition have increased the demand for metals and minerals such as copper, zinc, silver, lead, aluminum, steel, stainless steel, tin, lithium, nickel, cobalt, among others, and the so-called rare earths, as well as all types of industrial rocks, gypsum, lime, limestone, aggregates, marble, potash, magnesite, cement, ceramics and glass, among others.
These are key raw materials for the development of the global economy, many of which are scarce and generate a high level of dependence of the European Union on the American and Asian markets. In this sense, the International Mining Exhibition of Seville is configured as a reference framework for the sector to showcase its production, as well as the technological advances that are already being applied in its operations in order to advance in efficiency and sustainability. An international event that will also serve to present new projects and discuss the future of the sector, promoting networking among participants and the exchange of experiences, as well as the sharing of ideas to face the future of raw materials and the extractive industry in the world.
The regulatory regulation of mining will be one of the topics to be addressed during the International Mining Show, issues widely demanded by the sector to move towards a single and coordinated governance that promotes the development of new projects to ensure the strategic autonomy of the European Union in the supply of raw materials. In this regard, the participation in one of the round tables of the Minister of Industrial Policy and Energy of the Regional Government of Andalusia, where he will address the new Mining Strategy promoted in the autonomous community, as well as the Secretary of State for Energy, Sara Aagesen, who will present during the inauguration of MMH the principles and objectives of the Roadmap for the sustainable management of mineral raw materials recently approved by the central government.
Organized by the Asociación de Empresas Investigadoras, Extractoras, Transformadoras Minero-Metalúrgicas, Auxiliares y de Servicios (AMINER) and FIBES, in MMH Seville will be present the main mining-metallurgical, extracting and exploration companies such as Atalaya Mining, Sandfire Matsa, Cobre las Cruces, Atlantic Copper, Minera Los Frailes, Tharsis Mining, Alto Minerals, Minas de Estaño, Pan Glogal, or Calgovsa, as well as auxiliary companies from the sector and from the engineering, renewable energy or services fields, such as Insersa, Mecwide, Subterra, Liebherr Ibérica, Metso Outotec, Agbar, Sandvik, among others. In addition, companies such as Master Drilling, Xcalibur Geophisics, Civilnova Solutions, Paterson & Cooke and Torsa will also be exhibiting for the first time at the Mining Show.
Institutions and entities such as the Junta de Andalucía, the Confederación Nacional de Empresarios de la Minería y la Metalurgia (Confedem), Euromines, the Confederación de Industrias Extractivas de Rocas y Minerales Industriales (Cominroc), the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the Instituto Geológico Minero de España (IGME), the EIT RawMaterials, the Fundación Minería y Vida, the Diputación de Huelva or the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros de Minas del Sur, among others, will also participate.
Scientific program
Curated by Javier Targhetta, CEO of Atlantic Copper, the scientific committee of the exhibition is chaired by Rosa Menéndez, scientist and until a few weeks ago president of the Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). The MMH will open its scientific program on the 18th with the opening plenary lecture by Bernd Schäfer, CEO of EIT RawMaterials, under whose mandate the European Raw Materials Alliance has been formulated to boost the competitiveness and growth and attractiveness of the sector, ensure autonomy in supply and reduce dependence on other international markets.
Mark Rachovides, president of Euromines, and Raül Blanco, secretary general of Industry and SMEs of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, will be in charge of the plenary conferences on the second and third days, respectively. Five panels of experts have been organized to discuss topics of interest and current events in the sector. Specifically, ‘Raw materials and energy in the energy transition’, ‘Geostrategic challenges on raw materials in the European Union’, ‘Challenges for the development of the mining project’, ‘Social license, SG and sustainability’, ‘Innovation in the world of raw materials’, will be the titles around which will be discussed during the development of the MMH with the participation of professionals and experts of recognized international prestige in the sector.
