MORE THAN SEVENTY SPEAKERS WILL MEET IN SEVILLE AT THE NEXT EDITION OF THE MINING AND MINERALS HALL

The International Mining and Minerals Hall (MMH) will be attended by more than seventy speakers in its third edition, which will be held at the Seville Exhibition and Conference Center (FIBES) on October 15, 16 and 17.

Thus, the event, one of the world references in the mining sector, breaks its own record with more than seventy experts – twenty more than in the previous edition – who will meet to discuss the latest trends and developments, as well as to share experiences about an industry that in recent years has regained its status as one of the major drivers of the Andalusian economy.

The regional, national and international importance of the MMH has become evident after His Majesty King Felipe VI accepted the Presidency of the Honorary Committee for the third consecutive time since this event was launched in 2015; a Committee that also includes the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, among other personalities.

Mining and Minerals Hall will maintain the format with which it has consolidated, in only two editions, as a reference meeting point for the mining sector worldwide, with the participation of the major mining industries and a wide representation of its auxiliary fabric. The exhibition area, which has been expanded compared to the 2017 edition to host more than one hundred companies, will help to foster the creation of synergies and networking.

This third edition of the mining congress is marked, first and foremost, by a change in the name of the event: the Metallic Mining Hall that has been held in previous years has been renamed Mining and Minerals Hall, with the aim of becoming an inclusive meeting for the entire mining sector that includes other areas, such as the extractive mining of rocks and industrial minerals, which have a specific weight both in Andalusia and in the rest of Spain and Europe.

Multidisciplinary program

Given this new twist in the design of the congress, the program planned for this new edition has a markedly multidisciplinary character, bringing together a wide variety of topics and points of view on different aspects of the sector.

In this line, the sustainability of mining, a sector absolutely respectful with the environment in which it is carried out, will have a great weight in the bulk of the congress, with round tables such as “Competitiveness, sustainability and security of energy supply for mining and industry”, which will feature José Luis del Valle Doblado, in his dual position as president of the Scientific Committee of the MMH and president of LAR ESPAÑA and WiZink; “Opportunities of the circular economy for the mining industry”, led by Vicente Gutiérrez Peinador, CEO of CONFEDEM, and “Social license to operate: The management of the mining industry and its relationship with society”, with Luis Montoto Rojo, director of communication of the Ministry of Finance, Industry and Energy of the Regional Government of Andalusia, as moderator.

Within this area, also noteworthy are the conferences given by José F. Sánchez-Junco, CEO of MAXAM, under the title “Innovation and energy materials in the mining operation”; “Extractive industry strategy for biodiversity: a key player”, given by César Luaces Frades, technical secretary general of COMINROC and “Circular economy in the European Union”, in which Glenn Orveillon, expert in circular economy and industrial leadership of the European Commission, will share his experience of the European body.

This new edition of the MMH will also offer a space to analyze the current situation in which the sector finds itself, with round tables such as “Current situation, threats and opportunities of metallic mining”, with Javier Targhetta as moderator; “Mining policies and investments”, with Antonio García Muñoz, managing partner of the Mining Sector area of the law firm Lener, as moderator and “Biodiversity management in the extractive industry” moderated by Pilar Gegúndez Cámara, from Lafarge Holcim España. In addition, the conferences “Raw materials and geopolitics” by Isaac Querub, co-founder and partner of Moka Consulting, and “Premises for the new Mining Strategy of Andalusia. Starting point”, by Natalia González Herrera, General Secretary of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

Finally, there will also be space to study and analyze the future prospects for the mining sector, with round tables such as “Challenges and opportunities in the industrial rocks and minerals sector”, with Aniceto Zaragoza Ramírez, general manager of OFICEMEN, as moderator, and “Innovation and development in the mining industry. A mining industry with a future”, with José Manuel Sánchez Blanes, president of EPIROC, as moderator. The conference “Research and innovation on raw materials in Horizon Europe, 9th EU Framework Program 2021-2027”, by Lydia González, Spanish representative in the Horizon 2020 Program Committee, CDTI, and the Workshop “R+D+i projects. Generation of “Know How” and retention of talent in the mining industry”, led by Manuel Vázquez Mora, technical advisor of the General Secretariat of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Andalusian Regional Government, as the table leader, which will be held on Tuesday.

The ambitious program designed for this third ambition will be completed with the Workshops “Rolling towards circular economy: the use of lime in the phases of a project”, with Jorge Aladro Vico, General Manager of ANCADE, as moderator; “R&D&I in mining projects. A leap into the future”, moderated by Javier Carrillo de Albornoz, Commercial Director Spain of MAXAM, and Joaquín Pérez Novo, Director Industrial Markets SUEZ Barcelona; “Overview of the industrial minerals sector” moderated by Emma M.ª López Salamanqués, General Director of AINDEX; “Sustainability of the extractive industry”, with Francisco Javier Fernández Cortés, General Director of the Centro Tecnológico del Mármol, Piedra y Materiales, as moderator; “Perspectives of Spanish infrastructures. Challenges and opportunities”, moderated by César Luaces Frades, General Manager of the Federation of Aggregates; “Circular economy in the cement sector”, with Manuel Parejo Guzmán, Managing Director of FLACEMA, and “Sustainable mining-mineralurgical-metallurgical management”, with Vicente Gutiérrez Peinador, Chairman of CTN 22 Mining and Explosives Committee, as moderator.

According to Javier Targhetta, CEO of the metallurgical company Atlantic Copper and Commissioner of this new edition of the MMH, “this evolution of the congress is simultaneous with the recovery of a sector that in recent years has turned to the search for new ways and procedures to develop its activity in an efficient and sustainable manner. This is evidenced by the increase in the number of professionals from all areas of mining who will participate in the scientific presentations, and whose work, experience and innovative spirit will enrich all those attending the congress”.
